ABOUT THE GUY
While becoming a writer, I worked as a factory hand, journalist, bartender, office temp, Peace Corps volunteer, and elementary school teacher. Somehow along the way, I maintained my interest in everything.
As a frequent contributor to Smithsonian, I wrote about everything from eels to the history of Coney Island, from Ferraris to Jack London, from men’s hats to the vagaries of pi (π). I have also written for The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, American Heritage, Nautilus, Yankee, Sky and Telescope, and The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2003.
Since 2017, I have been the one-man editor/writer/designer of The Attic. This weekly online magazine features short articles about American dreamers, wonders, wits, rebels, faces, and places, The Attic promotes a kinder, cooler America. Because I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of the anger.
